How do I do this?
You need to visit Nelson and stay for a week to be taught by Shelley the hands-on of Aromatherapy massage and gain knowledge from her years of professional practice in her Aromaflex clinic for over 30 years. The in-class experience is crucial to being the best Aromatherapist you can be, so that you can practice to become a confident, knowledgeable, experienced, and qualified therapist. Learning other various techniques, such as pregnancy massage, half hour aromatherapy, introduction to reflexolology, is a way to provide more support for your clients, family and friends as you provide a range of Aromatic Medicine options.
You must commit to at least 3 weeks of travel within the year to come and study in Nelson, the top of the South Island, New Zealand.
The in-class experience is necessary to learn the various styles of Swedish massage and the various application techniques, including aromatic medicine formulations and body work such as aromatherapy one-hour massage, aromatherapy facial, pregnancy massage, and half-hour aromatherapy.
The study provides client charts so you can capture client data and learn to formulate and create bespoke blends for your clients before performing the aromatherapy massage. This is a way to attain the necessary skills to practice professionally from your own clinic, either at home or in other professional settings.
There is plenty of student support along the way, and the study can take one to two years to complete. The learner also has the option to just complete the in-house qualification (that is internationally recognised with IFPA), or if you wish to attain the ITEC Diploma, that can be arranged by sitting these exams at the end of every year.
(This qualification trains you in the traditional 'English style of Aromatherapist', as it is known by the French, Britain, Europe, South Africa and Australia)

NZQA New Zealand Qualification Development News 2025-2026
AromaScience Training is currently working on an NZQA New Zealand Diploma in Holistic Aromatherapy (Level 6). If you are interested in providing support for this qualification, please fill in the attached form so that we can provide this information to the Industry Skills Board as part of our qualification application to deliver in New Zealand. Delivery of this qualification is aimed for March 2026.
2026 DATES - You must attend all week-long block courses to qualify for your qualification.
Week 1: 2nd March to 6th March 2026.
Week 2: 20th April to 24th April 2026.
Week 3: 10th to 13th August 2026.
Exam Weeks: 23 November - 4th December 2026
